
Research Partnership Yields Breakthrough in Drought-Resistant Irrigation
Green Power and Cairo University’s Faculty of Agriculture have announced promising results from their joint research initiative on drought-resistant irrigation technologies adapted specifically for Egypt’s changing climate conditions.
The collaborative project, now in its second year, has developed a modified drip irrigation system that maintains optimal crop hydration even under extreme heat conditions, using up to 40% less water than conventional systems.
“By integrating specialized emitter technology with our AI-driven scheduling algorithms, we’ve created a system that remains efficient even as temperatures increase and water availability fluctuates,” notes Dr. Karim Fouad, lead researcher.
Field trials conducted across multiple crop varieties show yield increases averaging 22% compared to traditional irrigation methods, while significantly reducing water consumption.
The research team will present comprehensive findings at next month’s Mediterranean Agricultural Technologies Conference, with commercial implementation expected by early 2026.
